With his ranking dropping to outside the world’s Top 1000 earlier this year in February, after suffering from a wrist injury and it forced him to become inactive. No one would have expected him to rise back into the Top 100, and also win an Olympic Silver Medal! He also won his first title after coming back at the Stockholm Open, defeating Jack Sock in the final.

The highlight about his season is definitely the Silver Medal at the Rio Olympics, creating a huge upset against World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the first round as an unseeded player who got into the draw with a protected ranking. He then defeated 2008 Gold Medallist and this year’s Gold Medallist in Doubles, Rafael Nadal, in the semifinal to reach his 1st ever Gold Medal match and assured himself an Olympic Medal. Despite putting up a tough fight, he lost to defending Gold Medallist Andy Murray in 4 sets.
