Roberta
Vinci 6-3, 2-6, 3-6 Agnieszka Radwanska (Doha QF)
This match
is definitely 1 of the best matches in the year, with both players winning more
than 60 net points combined in the match, which can be considered very
impressive. Both players also had more winners than unforced errors, making it
feel like the points were being won than being lost.
Vinci made
a great start to the match, breaking Radwanska’ serve early on at 1-1. As the
match progresses, the audience saw more and more hot shots coming their way,
with Radwanska playing her best net game in quite a while, and Vinci playing
her best tennis this year. Despite Radwanska hitting those amazing shots, Vinci
managed to keep her nose in front of Radwanska in terms of the scoreline. While
Radwanska was serving to stay in the first set, Vinci broke her serve to win
the set 6-3, a set full of high quality tennis. This set was also very
well-played by Vinci, whose backhand slices are troubling Radwanska. Radwanska
also failed to break Vinci’s serve throughout the whole set.
Radwanska
finally managed to break Vinci’s serve in the first game of the second set,
jumping to a lead early in the set. However, Vinci broke back immediately, with
Radwanska still unable to find a solution to go against Vinci’s backhand
slices. From 1-2, Radwanska went on a roll, winning 5 straight games to win the
set 6-2, including breaking Vinci’s serve twice in a row to level the match.
Vinci
started the final set with a tough hold of service, and during the game,
Radwanska hit a backhand volley winner that was a potential shot of the year
contender at 40-15. Radwanska was on fire in the next few games, winning 4
straight games to go up 4-1, breaking Vinci’s serve twice. The first point in
the fourth game was another potential shot of the year contender hit by
Radwanska, showing the high quality of tennis played by both players. Vinci
then managed to get 1 of the break back after she hit some strong returns off
Radwanska’s slow second serves. Vinci consolidated the break, and minimize
Radwanska’s lead to just 1 game. Radwanska held her nerves and held her service
game to lead 5-3, and be just 1 game away from winning the match. With some
amazing defence and net play, Radwanska broke Vinci’s serve to win the match in
3 thrilling sets after just 1 hours and 51 minutes.
