Tennis.World.Craze's WTA Match of the Year #9 Monica Puig vs Angelique Kerber

Monica Puig managed to create history when she won the Olympics final against World No.2 and heavy favourite Angelique Kerber, becoming the first Puerto Rico woman to ever win a medal at the Olympics, and the first person from Puerto Rico to win a gold medal.


Puig was halfway of the big upset when she won the first set 6-4, in a set which saw Kerber consistently being outhit by Puig.

Kerber made the perfect reply to Puig when she won the second set 6-4 to bring her back level, and level the match at one set all.


Puig went on a roll from then on, winning 5 games in a row of from the start of the final set to lead 5-0 and be just a game away from winning the Gold Medal. Kerber managed to hold her serve to get one game back, and managed to get triple break points in her next return game. Nevertheless, Puig found her good serves at the correct time as she managed to come out of her marathon service game to win the game, set and the match.
